Steve Sanford SWLA FCA Area Director

Steve has been involved with FCA since he attended summer camp in high school. He understands the great influence coaches and athletes can have on a culture when they are living for Jesus Christ. He has been a self-employed businessman since 1976 when he moved to Southwest Louisiana to carry on the family business of graduation supplies and class rings. Steve and his wife, Denise, have been volunteering for FCA since 1985 in area high schools and began a huddle at McNeese State University in 2003. In 2005, with the help of a volunteer board of area Christian business men and women, Southwest Louisiana became an official FCA area.

Since 2008, Steve has been serving as the Area Director for Southwest Louisiana FCA along with continuing to run his business with the help of his two sons and business partner, Charlie Phillips, who are all also volunteers for the local FCA ministry. Charlie is the area volunteer for FCA Baseball. Steve's oldest son, Clint, is the Southwest Louisiana Huddle Leader for FCA Endurance and a SWLA FCA Advisory Board member. Steve’s youngest son, Cris, hosts a weekly bible study for McNeese State University student athletes and also serves on the Advisory Board.

Steve serves the Student Athlete Mentor for the McNeese Athletic Department as well as the chaplain for all the teams at McNeese State University which includes traveling with the McNeese Football Team and hosting Game Day Chapels for each sport for home games. In addition, Steve provides a monthly McNeese coaches / administrative staff Champions Luncheon, a monthly All Athlete FCA meeting in the Field House, and oversees a weekly Bible Study led by FCA Volunteers for each sport.

Denise has been serving on staff part time as the administrative assistant since 2005. She has also worked alongside Steve since the early 80's volunteering. In addition to her administrative work, Denise also helps with the McNeese State University huddle and is best known for her "homemade" chocolate chip cookies she brings each week to the huddle meetings.

Steve and Denise were married in 1974 and have three grown and married children, all of whom are actively involved in the FCA ministry. They are also the proud Dude and Meme to ten beautiful grandchildren.

Eunice Mayo, SWLA Area Representative

Eunice Mayo is a former McNeese State basketball player who credits FCA for being an integral part of her life by helping her to stay focused in her spiritual walk as an athlete. Eunice is a proud graduate of Hamilton Christian Academy. She was a standout athlete who led her team to two championships. She is the only female to date who received a full paid basketball scholarship coming from the small private Christian school. Eunice is also a 2001 graduate of McNeese State University. She is on the all-time block shot and rebounding list. Eunice graduated as a Speech major with a minor in English. She received her master’s degree in Educational Technology in 2011.

Eunice was a high school educator at LaGrange high school for 12 years, assistant basketball coach for 4 years, Governor’s Program on Abstinence faculty advisor for 5 years, and faculty sponsor, leader and mentor of a girls group called Destination Womanhood for 5 years. She did this all in addition to teaching. Eunice is also the proud mother of one daughter who she says is her greatest gift from God.

Eunice is very excited about being the high school area representative for FCA for year three in Southwest Louisiana. Her desire to see young people and young adults living their best life is the fuel for her greatest ministry efforts. The mission of FCA is to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Christ and His church. Eunice is visible in approximately 50 schools in Calcasieu, Beauregard, Allen, Jeff Davis, and Cameron parish. She also has some schools in Lafayette, La. She does Bible study with McNeese State woman’s basketball team and she does devotions in their locker room before games. She has worked with MSU volleyball as well. Eunice also provides leadership training to FCA school leaders, prays at state championship games, leads devotions at FCA huddles, works at FCA annual sports camp for high school and college over the summer, and travels abroad to help FCA flourish on any high school or middle school campus that needs help.

Eunice has the upmost respect for Mr. Steve (FCA area director) and Denise Sanford (FCA administrator) for all of their hard work and dedication in establishing FCA in Southwest Louisiana. She is committed to help make the organization bigger and better by reaching as many souls as she can for Christ and by teaching character development. She sees this position being similar to a “life coach”. She has a desire to see young people live their best life so they can be productive citizens in society. With your help, she can continue to promote change in the lives of so many young people across Southwest Louisiana and abroad.
